A fellowship begins
Jim and Lori Milner, with several other interested families, organized BCHEF to support fellow home educators. Their newsletter, The Daily Plan-It, helped connect families through activities and events.

It began with families who wanted to encourage other home educators on a Christian foundation.
A foundation takes shape
Tom and Merrily Gamwell carried leadership during the 1991–92 school year and developed a Statement of Faith. The Milners returned in 1992–93, while Jon and Carolyn Morgan began serving as newsletter editors.
A broader voice for home education
The Morgans assumed leadership in January 1994. They helped build understanding of home education, developed informational materials, and worked with other families to establish an advisory council.
Leadership, shared
The council became BCHEF’s leadership body, replacing leadership by an individual couple with a group of couples sharing responsibilities.
Keeping families connected
BCHEF began publishing its newsletter and announcements on a website in 2003–04. During 2006–07, journalism and yearbook students compiled an emailed newsletter, with printed copies for members without internet access.
